EA Sports announced today that the soccer game it will publish in 2023 will be part of the newly-launched EA Sports FC brand, getting rid of the FIFA brand the series utilized since Super NES and Sega Genesis and Super NES Madden 23 Coins. The announcement marks a significant change in one of the longest-running and most well-known continuous series in video game history. "We're grateful for the many years of great partnership in the world of FIFA," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement. "The future of football in the world is extremely bright, and the worldwide fanbase is at its highest ever. There is a huge opportunity to bring EA Sports FC at the heart of the sport, and to bring even more innovative and authentic experiences to the ever-growing football fans." EA's upcoming soccer game without FIFA will continue to have "more than 300 licensed individual partners, giving players access to more than 19,000 players across 700 teams, 100 stadiums and more than 30 leagues across the globe." The partners include top international leagues, including The Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, UEFA, CONMEBOL, and more. Alongside the name of the game's cover the newly branded game will also absent any reference in the World Cup, the quadrennial international competition run by FIFA. EA worked with FIFA to offer distinct themed FIFA World Cup titles every four years from 1998 through 2014 and introduced a separate World Cup mode to its profitable Ultimate Team digital card game for FIFA 14. That integration expanded to the full World Cup update in FIFA 18. It is believed that FIFA 23 — due in the coming months as EA's final title under the FIFA license — will expand on the World Cup mode and include the women's World Cup for the first time in franchise history. "Our final FIFA product will also contain more game modes as well as teams, features, leagues Madden nfl 23 Coins, players, and competitions than any previous edition," EA said in a statement.
